<p>Welcome to EcoVillage of Loudoun County, Virginia - a soon-to-be-built residential community based on the social principles of cohousing and the environmental principles of sustainable development and sustainable living. This new community will be located on 180 acres of beautiful rolling hills in the in Northern Virginia countryside, near the hamlet of Taylorstown, and only about five miles from a commuter rail station that connects to Washington, D.C., as well as to many points in Maryland.
<p>Our homes will achieve energy efficiency through design strategies such as passive solar heating, natural cooling, and day lighting. Our infrastructure will feature parking on the periphery, extensive pedestrian paths, outdoor ground lights that preserve stellar visibility, and environmentally sensitive technologies such as low-water-use fixtures.
<p>We are committed to restoring biodiversity while protecting the wildlife, wetlands, forests, soil, air, and water. We are planning landscaping that will emphasize native plants and wildflowers and, for those interested, will create an opportunity for organic gardening and farming. Our homes will be designed to support home-based occupations, offering high-speed Internet access and other options to promote a localized, sustainable economy.

Our lifestyle combines the cohousing ideal of people living together in community with the ecological ideal of people living in harmony with the Earth. We are committed to community systems that encourage resident participation in the planning, design, ongoing management, and maintenance of the community.
<p>Road construction is underway, and home construction is projected to begin in the fall of 2000. When completed, EcoVillage of Loudoun County will be one of the largest intentional communities in the United States, with two distinct neighborhoods, each with 25 lots and its own common house.
